WIDOWS PEAK!
Formerly known as The Crooked Smiles, Widows Peak! are a 3-piece pop-punk/emo band from Sheffield, UK. The trio have crafted their tone over 2 EP’s, before releasing their debut album in 2022. Combining the raw garage sounds of the late-90s pop-punk scene with a more melodic and polished sound of Mid-Western Emo, The Crooked Smiles put a unique spin on power chord anthems, fueled by poetic lyricism, break-neck drums, and roaring guitar lines.
Founded in 2019, lead singer and guitarist Michael Rodber met drummer Declan Quick loitering inconspicuously outside the toilets of a local rock club. The two quickly bonded over Declan’s Alkaline Trio shirt, and drunkenly promised each other they’d start a band together, and to their surprise they did! At first, practices were nothing more than an excuse to whale along to early 2000’s pop-punk. Before long, and with the help of a friend of the band jumping in for additional guitars, the two strived to cobble together something resembling a song. After a late night coach trip back from a blink-182 cover band show, the lyrics to their first single, Pins and Needles, was put to paper, before the two hit the studio. Later on while on a University trip to the heart of Edinburgh, Rodber bumps into the future bassist of The Crooked Smiles. Over a couple of beers and a stroke of luck at the hostel bar, Michael and bassist George Allen to struck up a conversation on music, before ideas of grandeur (local pub shows) were floated across the table. When the pair returned to Sheffield, George was introduced to Declan, and Widows Peak! as you know them were born.
Since those serendipitous beginnings, the trio have crafted their tone over 2 EP’s, before releasing their debut album, Tears in the Palace, now in 2023. STANDING CREW
Standing Crew, a dynamic rock 'n' roll ensemble originating from Finland, encapsulates the pulsating energy of the modern era. Their sonic fusion not only pays homage to the timeless essence of classic rock 'n' roll but also reverberates with the defiant spirit reminiscent of 80's and 90's punk and hard rock movements.
Throughout their musical evolution, the band has weathered a few lineup adjustments, yet each transition has served to fortify their unity, rendering them even more resilient and cohesive. Some of the band members boast extensive involvement in the rock music scene since the 1980s, while others embarked on this exhilarating journey at different junctures. Nonetheless, their combined reservoir of expertise spans across multiple decades, contributing to their multifaceted musical identity.
It started as a two man therapy project, when they went to their rehearsal room trying to spend some time (and drink few beers). They made a few demos, and it started to feel that this stuff should turn to a band. After couple of lineup tryouts, they found 3 other great guys to join in a band. But of course, when everything seemed to go well, there came changes to the lineup and the Covid 19-shutdown. But now the band has developed into 5 Finnish guys trying to maintain Rock’N’Roll clichés, mainly songs that tell us how to get to dealing with the opposite sex, or in their case, how in spite of attempts is reached there off. Grab a beer crank it up and loose yourself into some kick ass 80's and 90's style Punk and Hard Rock. You might hear influences from bands like Mötley Crüe, Billy Idol etc.

”It’s a fun blast of punk frivolities, recognisably First Noel, but given a fresh coat of paint. All credit to Standing Crew, who give it their absolute all here and manage to capture both the time of the year but making it thoroughly punk rock too.” -gbhbl.com
“The song is straightforward and energetic street rock, where a distorted electric guitar and a ticking bass keep the pulse on point. The drums thump, but don't go flat, and the singer hits it with his masculine style. Okay, all of this has already been heard many times, but despite that, Cold Steel hits the button with one hit.” -desibeli.net
